September 4, 2015 – Oak Point Partners acquired the remnant assets of Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison LLP Bankruptcy Estate in September 2015. On September 17, 2003, an involuntary petition for chapter 7 relief was filed against Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison LLP in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California, assigned Case No. 03-32715. Thereafter, a chapter 7 trustee was charged with winding down the estate for the benefit of creditors.

Founded in 1926, Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison ranked as one of the largest law firms in the United States, employing over 1,100 lawyers and staff in 14 cities at its peak. For nearly eight decades, the firm represented clients in areas of business including technology, antitrust and trade regulation, biotechnology, and healthcare. The firm emphasized representing emerging technology firms. Brobeck had a reputation for strong corporate practice and attracted high profile clients, such as Cisco Systems, Sun Microsystems, Nokia, and Nike. Following the dot-com bubble burst in 2001, the firm’s heavy focus on representing technology-related companies, and its practice of began accepting equity from emerging companies in lieu of traditional law firm compensation, backfired and ultimately led to the company’s demise.
