BankruptcyData recently published its Q3 2016 Business Bankruptcy Filings Report. Packed with 17 pages of analytical charts and graphs, this report reflects Q3 2016 business bankruptcy activity and breaks down the filings by various elements such as industry, sales volume, company size, liabilities, assets and public and private filings.
The analysis reveals that during Q3 2016, the number of business bankruptcies dropped nearly 10% compared to Q2 2016 but was virtually even to the number seen in Q1 2016. YTD through September 30, business bankruptcy filings are up 28% compared to 2015 and up 7% compared to the same time period in 2014–but down significantly compared to the same periods from 2010 to 2013. The Q3 2016 business bankruptcy filing figures represented the 9th lowest figure since 2010 but the 3rd highest since 2014. Bankruptcy filings of public companies leveled off in Q3 2016 with only 15 public companies filing for bankruptcy, bringing the YTD total up to 76 as of September 30, 2016. The Energy sector generated four out of the 15 bankruptcies or 27% of overall public company bankruptcies in Q3, versus 48% during Q1 and Q2.
